Kokomo High School senior awarded
Men of Note Music Scholarship
Laura Alexander, a graduating senior at Northwestern High
School, has been awarded the Men of Note, Keep America Singing, Music
Scholarship by the Kokomo Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The $500
scholarship is offered each year to a graduating senior from one of the nine
surrounding high schools who is entering college in the field of music
education, with a vocal music option.
Miss Alexander has been accepted into the School of Music at
Anderson University, Anderson, Indiana. She is an outstanding musician, both as
a vocalist and an instrumentalist, according to references at Northwestern High
School.
Laura has been in school choirs since 4th grade and was a member
of the Varsity Singers Elite Group for the last two years. She participated in
the All State Honor Choir, Kokomo Children’s Choir, attended Interlochen Arts
Academy, and has been active in the concert and marching bands at Northwestern
High School. Along with her solo singing, she also performed in a girls’
barbershop quartet including singing the National Anthem at Fever and Pacer
professional basketball games. She has studied dance for 10 years at Seamster
Dance Studio and enjoys choreography and teaching dance for Northwestern School
Corporation choir and drama productions.

Kokomo Men of Note Offer Music Scholarship
The Kokomo Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society is offering a $500
unrestricted scholarship to a graduating senior from any one of the nine high
schools in and around Howard County as well as home schooled students. It is
available to students who are electing to pursue a degree in music education,
with a vocal option, at any accredited college in the United States .
Application forms are available from their high school guidance counselor or
from their choral director and must be submitted to the local chapter of the
Barbershop Harmony Society no later than April 30, 2008. Full instructions on
